S'mores by Isaac Stalling
Out today, a soothing single ahead of an EP release.
This is a soothing song that references, and indeed harks back to, traditional Country music in the manner of forefathers such as John Prine. I loved Covers when it was released last autumn and this follows in a similar tradition: lots of soft and gentle guitar work with a clear, old-time voice over the top.

The photo of Isaac sitting by the river with his guitar summarises him so well. This is music in its purest form, true roots music, and one of the results is that the lyric becomes the focus.
Lay me where the wind meets the willow
When I meet my end
Let me get dug up by a sleuthin' greyhound
Or a curious alien
There is a sweet sense of humour to these songs, and if you love this one, you will most definitely love the EP, to be called Roastin, when it arrives later this spring. My favourite line of the whole song is this one:-
Taste real good to a worm but I think they’ll learn that I ain’t got much good meat
In addition to his solo work, Isaac's songwriting career is in full bloom. He co-wrote the Daniel Caesar release, Call on Me. The song helped Caesar to win Songwriter of the Year at the 2026 Juno Awards last week. Here's Isaac's thoughts on the new track:-
"S’mores is a song written about the fear of death stemming from the love we share with others. After being in a relatively isolated state for many years, the shock of the love that I had for those around me ended up bringing back those fears.
"I was listening to a lot of John Prine and Blaze Foley at the time and tried my best to use my 1 mic bedroom setup to emulate the production of their early works. I hope y’all enjoy!"
