Sweet Megg: Massive Negroni
A special one releases today. A full album from a house favourite, Sweet Megg.
Every release excites me, every week. This is an exciting job to have. But when one of my OGs is dropping new music, it is very special. Sweet Megg's brilliant Never Been Home was the first full album review I ever wrote, this time last year. I was lucky enough to meet Megg in London a little while ago and grabbed the album on vinyl. She played a number of the new tunes that night, and you can read more below.
I learned that this album was recorded in the Catskills with Thor Jensen after he decided to decamp to London. It's a sort of fusion jazz which I think they decided to call Laser Jazz but in any case involves reworking jazz standards and updating the lyrics in places.

Back in February I reviewed the single Slip In Mules, which you can find on today's album release too.

Megg can even sing in French! She is so talented and I have loved listening to more of the album during this week. One of my favourites is I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire. This might be a covers album of jazz classics, but Megg's interpretations are inspiring. This one is from 1941, written in 1938 and originally popularised by the Ink Spots with a male vocalist. However it was written by a team of people, as many songs were back then.
I've lost all ambition
All worldly claim
I just want to be the one you love
And with your admission, that you'd feel the same
I'll have reached the goal that I'm dreaming, oh, believe me
Sweet Megg is on tour now and all tour details are here. Megg is also on Patreon where you can even do live Yoga with her. You can also buy real things on Bandcamp.
